Castello di Bibbione              

Bibbione Castle is an enchanting hilltop castle 15km south of Florence surrounded by Chianti Classico vineyards. The views from the estate are simply beautiful: undulating hills, captivating even in Winter. Bibbione was first mentioned in documents dating back to the 10th century. Past owners include Niccolo’ Macchiavelli, a famous Italian writer and philosopher, who used the castle as his hunting lodge.

At present Bibbione Castle is still privately owned by the Macchiavelli family. Just next to the castle are a few farmhouses offering self catering accommodation. Each apartment has great character with its original terracotta flooring, exposed wooden beams and ornate wrought iron/wooden bed-frames.

Position: The nearest village to the castle is Bargino, 2km, where there is a shop and highly recommended fish restaurant. San Casciano, a larger Chianti town is just 4km and Mercatale, 5km, where there are further restaurants and open-air evening entertainment in the Summer months. Greve, Chianti’s capital town, can be reached 13km along a country road leading from the castle.

Situated in the main castle itself with a large window over looking the inner courtyard. Living room with open-fire and double sofa-bed, kitchen/dining area with oven/2 ring hob/dishwasher. Upstairs to double bedroom with beautiful countryside views, bathroom with jacuzzi bath-tub/shower fixture.

Giotto, First Floor, 2/4 persons

Spacious accommodation situated opposite the castle gates, overlooking the gardens. Large open-plan lounge with two single sofa-beds and open-fire. Kitchen/dining area with oven/4 ring hob and dishwasher. Double bedroom, bathroom with bath-tub/shower fixture.

Tiglio, First Floor, 2/4 persons

Living room with double sofa-bed. Separate kitchen (with dishwasher and washing machine). Dining area. Double bed with en-suit bathroom (shower). 2nd bathroom. Lovely views. Tiglio can be connected with Cipressi on request.

Cipressi, First Floor, 2 persons

Compact apartment with Living/dining area with pullman kitchen (2 ring hob/‘fridge) double bedroom, bathroom with shower. Splendid views to be enjoyed. Cipressi can be connected with Tiglio on request.

Frullacchia, Ground Floor, 2 persons

Compact apartment with living/dining area with pullman kitchen (2 ring hob/‘fridge), double bedroom, bathroom with shower. Original bread oven for pizza making.

Exterior: Steps down to panoramic swimming pool. Private parking. Beautiful gardens surrounding the castle.

Further information: Please arrive between 4 and 7pm and depart between 9 and 10 am. A returnable breakages deposit is required on arrival. Central heating is available in Winter for a fee. Extra help is available for a fee. Please ask for the cost of these services if required. Small dogs are welcome.
