Il Poggiaccio                 

Borgo Il Poggiaccio, during the 14th century, was a small hamlet with its own school, bakery and blacksmiths. Today, the original buildings have been immaculately restored by their Swiss/Italian owners to an official 1st category, 4 star rating. The self-catering properties retain their original character with oak beams, terracotta flooring and open-fires. Each has a telephone, satellite television and radio. A beautiful wine bar and restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with 3 special evenings per week of piano and operatic arias.

Position: Situated amid the gently rolling Sienese hills, the nearest towns to Il Poggiaccio are Sovicelle (7km) Rosia (10km), and Colle Val d’Elsa (18km). Other places of interest not to be missed are San Galgano (20km); San Gimignano (24km); Siena (18km) and Florence (40km).

Guests may choose an ‘apartment only’ stay at Borgo Il Poggiaccio and have meals in the restaurant on request or opt for half board, breakfast and dinner, which is compulsory during the first 3 weeks of August.

Type B 2/3 persons: Living/dining room with open-fire and double sofa-bed suitable for one extra guest. Kitchen, double bedroom, bathroom (shower/tub).

Type C 4/5 persons: Open plan living/dining room with open-fire. Kitchen with dishwasher. 2 bathrooms with shower/tub. Double bedroom and twin bedroom. In one type C apartment there is an extra bed, sleeping 5 persons.

Type D 4 persons: Living/dining room. Kitchen with dishwasher, 2 bathrooms. There are 2 type D apartments. The first has one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. The second has 2 double bedrooms.

Type E 4/5 persons: Lounge/dining room (with sofa-bed for one extra guest). Kitchen with dishwasher. 2 bathrooms. 2 double bedrooms (two type E’s have the second double bedroom as a twin). Private outdoor area.

Type F 6/7 persons: Lounge/dining room, kitchen with dishwasher, 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom, 2 bathrooms. In one of the apartments there is single bedroom instead of the twin and an attic room with 2 single beds sleeping a total of 7 persons.

Exterior: Il Poggiaccio has a large ‘L’ shaped swimming pool (225sqm) surrounded by sun-loungers with separate showers/changing rooms. A tennis court, basket ball and mountain bikes are available at no extra cost. Other services include a small library with foreign newspapers and a shop and boutique. Guests are invited to wine tasting on Fridays. There are well tended gardens with pergolas for al fresco dining. The restaurant has an outside terrace with large sun-umbrellas.

Restaurant: A set four course menu on a normal evening costs approx. £18 per head. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays there are special evenings with opera/singing. when dinner costs approximately £21 and £25 per head.

Extra services: (to be paid on departure) cot hire, laundry, fax and E-Mail, firewood, central heating, domestic help and extra linen changes.

Breakage’s deposit of approx. £90 required for type B/C, approx. £180 for type D/E and appox. £220 for type F to be kindly paid on arrival. Providing there have been no damages or breakages, this deposit will be returned to you in full. Dogs are welcome at an extra charge.
