The Old Barn              

The Old Barn is and ideal place for those seeking tranquillity, privacy and unforgettable views. In our opinion it is a romantic hide-a-way for two persons but may sleep an extra one person.

This strikingly characteristic stone-built barn is positioned within the private grounds of a 12th century villa noted for its historical importance and once owned by the Buondelmonti Florentine nobles.

The property is surrounded by breathtaking, panoramic views of the Val di Greve valley dotted with vineyards, olive groves and nearby Chianti towns and hilltop villages. Visit the beautiful abbey of Passignano and Greve, Chianti’s capital town with its bustling weekly market and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The medieval market town of Mercatale is a few minutes drive from The Old Barn. At Mercatale there is a highly recommended restaurant, a pizzeria, bars, shops, a supermarket, banks and chemist.

Interior: The Old Barn is divided into a self-contained flat and the owner’s photographic studio. Please note: the accommodation within the barn is on the left hand side of the picture. The main entrance to the property and the private garden area is not visible from the above photograph.

The interior is artistically furnished to good standards. Ground floor: Lounge/dining room including two large single futon sofa beds and an antique wood burning stove. Patio doors to outside. Fully fitted separate kitchen with marble tops, 4 ring gas hob unit and fridge/freezer. White bathroom suite: w.c., sink, bidet and tiled shower unit. First Floor: double gallery bedroom.

Exterior: Private patio area leading out from the kitchen furnished with a wrought iron table and chairs. Portable barbecue. Between the patio and the vineyards (just meters away from the barn) for sole use of guests there is a lawned south facing garden laid to lawn with fruit trees. The newly built swimming pool can be seen from the patio and garden area. There is a further furnished garden area around the poolside. The pool is shared between the guests to the barn and the owners of the villa.

Extra Information: All linen is provided except large bath towels for use at the pool. Weekly linen change and cleaning. Use of washing machine in the main villa. A returnable breakages deposit is required on arrival in the form of a Sterling/Travellers/Euro cheque to the amount of £75. Please arrive at the barn between 3pm and 7pm. If this is not possible, we would be grateful if you could let us know and we will arrange a different arrival time for you.
